About this trip
Cape Town is an invigorating city full of history, great restaurants, stunning beaches, culture and more. There is plenty to see and do – why not take a hike up the iconic landmark of Table Mountain where you can be astounded by some of the most spectacular views of the city. You absolutely must take a stroll on Boulders Beach which is home to several penguins – yes! Penguins!
Robben Island is the location of the prison where Nelson Mandela was held during the apartheid, along with hundreds of other political detainees. You can take a guided tour with one of the former inmates.
For a casual afternoon of shopping and eating, head over to Long Street where you will find a treasure trove of traditional African crafts, delicious snacks and trendy bars housed in a collection of pretty Victorian buildings.
A visit to Port Elizabeth can’t be complete without going to the Marine Reserve at Croix Island. It is home to the largest breeding colony of African penguins in the world – you will need to get a boat out to the island, but it is totally worth it.
Foodies will get excited about going to the Valley Market which takes place on the the first Saturday of every month. Here you will find some great artisanal food and drink options and it makes for a great lunch option too as you can pick up everything from dim sum to a home-made gelato and more.
If you love dolphins, the Bayworld Oceanarium and Museum won’t disappoint and is not only a fun day out, but it is very educational too.
